Poland or Palestine?Reader comment on item: New York Sun Columnist Weighs in on Creation of State of Israel Submitted by ABK (United States), Jul 20, 2006 at 20:42 The Israeli immigrants cannot claim native status to Palestine, it's too late in history. Two millenia ago my ancestors must have lived in many places, should I find people like me and establish a homeland in Europe, Asia, or Africa? Regardless of view, a massive wave of migration and establishment of a state authority that is not culturally compatible will cause massive friction with native inhabitants. At the end of the 19th century, those inhabitants happened to be Palestinian Arabs, who had a unique culture of their own. I understand the need to create a place for the displaced and antagonized Jewish people, but trying to recreate history by taking back an arid, unforgiving land that had been inhabited by a deeply rooted Arab people is not a smart thing to do. I'm sorry Europe and the United States turned their backs for so long during the 1930s, while Jews were treated horribly. The current destruction of Lebanon makes me think that Israel has fallen to the ways of its old enemy, the Roman Empire. The Arabs are not the demons they are made out to be, most want peace and the continuation of their lives with prosperity and rights. How can the Lebanese civilians be punished? Lebanon's state army can't even defend itself for a second, why are you punishing them for Hezbollah? When Olmert ordered a strike in the North, he really attacked the wrong people and sowed more seeds of revenge. Where does this go from here? Don't bring this war here to us. Thanks, ABK
