Democracy is made by democratsReader comment on item: Caught My Eye - Noteworthy Quotes Submitted by Chris (United States), Jul 20, 2006 at 21:36 I see two posts. One says that Islam is incompatible with democracy in bald terms. Like "Islam" is the single monolythic religion its mythology portrays itself as. Sure Islam says that government ought to come from God, but all the hubris comes from all the Imams and liars who claim that they speak for God and quote from the Koran or hadith to proove it. When Islam said that Mohammed was the seal, I believe that this was merely meant to try to put a stop to others from speaking in Gods name the way he'd been able to do. Who then speaks for Mohammed? When they disagree with one another they thunder and roar. No, like all religions it is all in the interpretation. Moslems have to struggle with this interpretation, and there is no guarantee that they won't settle on an authoritarian one finally. But that does not have to be. Islam has been a progressive force in the past and it could be again -- in the hands of the right architects, and if Moslems take Islam out of the hands of false prophets who claim to speak for God. If they do that then democracy is perfectly compatible with Islam. God can just as well choose to talk to an assembly as he/she can talk to a single man in a cave. It is said that God is talking to all of us. The problem with Islamo-fascists and Islamic-Jihadists is that they don't seem to be listening. But that is no more true of Islam than it is of the Ralph Reeds and other fanatics in our own countries. Maybe there is a reason that no one religion has been allowed to dominate the whole world. Maybe we are meant to realize something. Chris Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
