America is not our EnemyReader comment on item: [Appeasement Explains] Why Europe Balks Submitted by Gabriel Grosso (United Kingdom), Jan 29, 2003 at 05:48 I must admit that the French and the Germans do not contribute at all to the success of this war against Iraq. However, as a European I am more afraid of Militant Islam than of anything else. That is why I support the war against Iraq. I have got the feeling that Militant Islam is a problem that we need to tackle at one point or another. Militant Islam is a much bigger problem than one expects and that is why France and Germany were so foolish and petty in opposing the war. I agree with Pipes's analysis on European colonialism and sense of guilt. That is certainly one of the reasons behind the French and the Germans' opposition for the war against Iraq. However, I don't see how European colonial powers appeased the colonized. Britain went to war with Egypt over the Suez Channel; French went to war with the Arabs over Algeria. It might be true that there is anti-Semitism in Europe but, hate-crimes against Jews are nowadays committed mainly by Muslim Extremists who live in Europe. You don't seem to explain the difference here. If you don't believe me than check www.adl.org/In Europe, white racism is nowadays targeted at immigrants and non-whites rather than Jews. Of course, this does not justify European anti-Semitism in the past. However, I am a European but I am not anti-American. I don't see America as a threat for Europe. By contrast, I see Militant Islam as a threat for Europe. I don't believe in the clash of civilisations and I don't hate Muslims. I am afraid of Militant Islam because it has replaced Communism as the new totalitarian ideology and the new global threat. America is not our Enemy.
