Fundamentalism in every form is the problemReader comment on item: Op Eds Now More Central in War than Bullets Submitted by CanadianChris (Canada), Nov 1, 2006 at 01:15 Submitted by Indian Chandragupt, Oct 27, 2006 at 23:30 We have to move away from political correctness . CanadianChris says; This is far too broad a brush for me to agee with, respect is due when respect is reciprocal. Being politically correct is not the problem, the problem is not having a consensus of where Political correctness ends. Such as an ideology that treats non-believers and women as inferior. Or a belief system that creates an atmosphere of intolerance for free thought or pursuit of alternative religion. There are many Islamic people who are willing to live in harmony with the rest of the world, just as there arechristians who live in harmony with non-believers although they believe that everyone else is wrong and that there WILL come a day when a bloody battle will be fought between believers and evil(non-believers/satan). The problem as I see it, is fundamentalism, not ideology. We have to expose our real enemy " Islamism " and give enough reasons , justifications , facts , documentaries , websites , films , etc to back it with credible evidence. CanadianChris says; If by, "Islamism", you mean Islamic fundamentalism, I agree, but this also applies to every form of fundamentalism, such as intolerant Christianity, etc. We have to show our Youth that " Islamism" is danger for Mankind. It poses greater threat than Nazism , Facism , etc. , We have to motivate our Youth to unite and fight for the cause . CanadianChris says; Education surely is the path to peace. Ignorant idealism to fight an enemy that is not consistent across the board is dangerous to say the least. Hitler had the ability to demonize the Jews through the power of ignorant idealism, he was able to create an ignorant assumption that ALL Jews were bad/evil/inferior/immoral/etc. A process of strict enforcement of separation of church and state at every level is a good start. Belief is fine, but religious influence in politics at any level neglects those who do not believe exactly the same ideology. If you put 100 protestant christians in a room, most of them would agree with the basic concept of belief but almost every person would have some form of personal belief that is different from the next person. This is easily shown by the almost infinite denominations of protestantism and each claims a degree of belief that is elevated above the next. Removal of religion from politics is the only answer. Common morality is vital to the healthy evolution of a society. Religion separates and promotes conflict, education brings us closer together and promotes peace. Non Muslim Youth needs the Aim and Motivation , If we are able to provide them , We will see millions of e-mails coming with willingness to join this Global War against Islamism. CanadianChris says; I am definitely against promotion of war as the best solution, I would promote war only as a last recourse. I see a global education of common morality as the solution, not military dominance, because military dominance is an expensive prospect to sustain and when the dominance ends, the persecuted will rise even stronger. A home/family based education of common moral boundaries, as well as an appropriate and consistent system of consequence would be a more effective long term solution. This will require a strong leadership that people can trust with the responsibility of enforcing tolerance and respect. This will also require a removal of political special interest groups that are ethnically based, and an establishment of a legitimate movement toward equality. The intolerant ideologies will always exploit the 'weaknesses' of ethnic based opportunites to establish intolerance. If Islamist organisations are recruiting Young Muslims for Jihad to destory the Civilised World , We can Awake , Unite and Motivate Non Muslim Youth to Stand and Defend the Civilsed World from the Biggest threat of century that is " Islamism". CanadianChris says; Islamism IS a threat but Just as christianity became stronger as it faced persecution, Islam will show the same results with the same approach. Persecution of a poorly educated religiously fervent demographic will result in catastrophic growth of the ideology. Again I say that the only sustainable resistance to 'Islamism', is a set of guidelines for society that is fair and common, respecting culture and ideology to the degree that these same show respect and tolerance. And a strict 'Intolerance' for intolerant ideologies. The consequences would have to creatively remove the threat of people who are not willing to outwardly exhibit positive treatment of their fellow human regardless of personal/ internal beliefs. This removal would have to respect the individual but separate them from responsible/ self-controlled society and put them into a separate, basic reward system for effort and contribution, not a prison system that allows people to be removed from society without any form of positive contribution back to the society that the individual was harming. This system would also have to have extreme accountability and a way to 'earn integration back into society. A much more intelligent group of people than myself would have to figure this out, because this system as I propose it has so many holes in it.
