The Naming of The WarReader comment on item: The Middle East and Islam Dominate U.S. Public Life Submitted by Abu Nudnik (United States), Jan 2, 2007 at 10:34 The reason why the Israeli-Lebanese war is still unnamed goes to the gist of the so-called war on terror. Lebanon, as a nation, is responsible for everything that originates from and transpires within their borders. In exchange for that they receive diplomatic recognition. No response against Lebanon in the conflict could have been disproportionate because Israel's national sovereignty and territorial integrity was breached in clear acts of war. By blaming "the terrorists," clever middle eastern governments can play the shell game indefinitely, pulling troops here and there until exhausted. Mr. Bush had it right the first time and he should've stuck to it: Those responsible for 9/11 and other acts of terror are not only the terrorists themselves but all those states who helped them before and after the fact. Or as Dostoievski said [from memory] "Not only those who committed the crime are guilty but all those who wished to see it done and were glad when it was done are equally guilty."
