Reply to the response by Daniel Pipes to meReader comment on item: The Middle East and Islam Dominate U.S. Public Life Submitted by Hassa Radwan (United Kingdom), Feb 27, 2007 at 05:13 Thanks, I read the article "The Evil Isn't Islam." New York Post, 30 July 2002. My basic argument that the problem is radical Islam, not Islam. I agree with you - but I have a problem with this argument. First of all let me say that I have been a Muslim all my life. I was a teacher at Islamia School for 15 years (the one founded by Cat Stevens) And I have argued in exactly the same way as you have in that article - that Islam needs to evolve and respond to the changing context we now live in. My problem is that this is ultimately dishonest. I mean it is simply changing Islam to suit the current morality and trends. How can it do this and still remain faithful to the idea that it is a Divine revelation - surely once one changes and modernizes it - it can no longer claim to be from God - but is simply from man. It is a problem that has led to my own crisis of faith. Hassan. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
