Iraqi Dissent

The comments that I just read only serves to reconfirm that the Iraqis will never be able to operate in a Democratic environment. Their complete disregard for the well being of their countrymen, their culture and their history is a reflection on the mind set that pervades the people that make up that country.

It is only a country by name and political borders. Once inside, it is a country of rival tribes and religions whose only purpose is to overun anyone who is not like them in thought or religion.

This is why only someone like Saddam can control the country. They will only be controlled by someone who is more ruthless than themselves. Someone who they fear is the only person that they will obey. National and local laws only work when people agree that they are fair and just and that a framework needs to be established in order to live peacably with each other. This will never happen in Iraq because the people will not agree on what is fair and just and will never live peacably amongst themselves.

It makes me think that they were better off under Saddam's regime than they are now. Freedom for Iraqis will only create religious and ethnic violence of proportions that we have yet to see.
