The Muslim Debate???? :: Reader comments at Daniel Pipes

"The root causes also lie in the fear of some Muslims to embrace , lest this openness somehow dilute the purity of their beliefs".

More than beliefs--they fear reasoned debate and intellectual exchange would dilute their "power"--and about this, they are right.
