The Gramsci-ization of IslamReader comment on item: Suicide Reversal? Polling the Muslim world Submitted by David W. Lincoln (Canada), Jul 30, 2007 at 10:25 In "The keys of this blood" by Malachi Martin, we find the impact of Antonio Gramsci upon those whose emblem was the hammer and sickle. He proposed a path that frankly delivered so much more than Stalin to Brezhnev delivered in progressing to the end of what orthodox Communist ideologists promised. But, in order to be a good Communist, certain hallmarks have to be accepted, which in retrospect worked against achieving that goal. One is, Plato is wrong in saying there is a spiritual side to life. Now, what does this have to do with Islam? Simply this, just as the shedding of lots of blood has resulted in those who do so being correctly labelled as brigands - there are things about Islam that work against arriving at the goal that orthodox Muslim theologians point towards. For, we see that the Taliban and those who turn mosques into ammunition and weapons depots are like Stalin and Brezhnev: we will get our way via military means. If not via classical military tactics and strategy, then by hit and run tactics like employing improvised explosive devices. Well, if they think they will spread Islam via tiring the coalition of the willing who is in Afghanistan, et al., to make sure that what it takes to build a healthy society occupies rightful levels of priority - they will have to deal with us who view them as only progressing in the unsavoury aspects of humankind as compared to those identified either with the hammer and sickle or Nazi Germany. For, what have they accomplished with their time? Other than perpetuating a vicious circle. As for those hallmarks that work against what destination orthodox Muslim clerics say should be arrived at, one is a blatant disregard for the here and now. Life is so much better in paradise, and you can get there if you kill the infidel. Well, such blatant disregard for life this side of eternity places the universe's largest roadblock between those who are Muslim and what it takes to build a healthy society. So, even though some are moving away from the shedding of blood to achieve global sharia, their paradigm has its flaws.
