Thank you Dr. PipesReader comment on item: John Hagee, the Holocaust, and Me: Thinking about Allies Submitted by There is NO Santa Claus (United States), Jul 24, 2008 at 15:40 Dear Dr. Pipes: I agree with your decision to speak at the CUFI conference. Moreover, I believe the media's portrayal of Rev. Hagee's remarks were quite unfair. I know many friends of Israel who did not know of Rev. Hagee. When they saw news reports of Hagee's theological views taken strictly out of context, they approached me and asked me why I was supporting Sen. McCain when he clearly has anti-Semitic friends like Rev. Hagee. I kid you not! Fortunately, I have often told my friends of the shoddy workmanship of the mainstream media and I pointed out that this was yet another instance. Nowhere in the media reports on Hagee's comments could one possibly know that this was a man who has stood AGAINST anti-Semitism and FOR the State of Israel in a clear and consistent manner for many decades. The media storm over Rev. Hagee's remarks was nothing more than an attempt to paint one of Sen. McCain's supporters as an anti-Semite. Yet anyone who follows CUFI and Rev. Hagee knows that this is quite untrue. In light of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's remarks regarding Israel, I would be very pleased and relieved to find that he leads an organization like CUFI. I would be pleased to know that Rev. Jeremiah Wright has clearly and consistently stood up for the State of Israel for decades. For some strange reason, Sen. O'Bama's supporters have never been able to come up with evidence of that kind of activity. From this perspective, I have concluded that the mainstream media's coverage of Rev. Hagee's endorsement of the McCain campaign has been extremely unfair. I hope you agree. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
