How can Yoram Schweitzer, someone so shallow, hold such an important position?Reader comment on item: A Final Reply to Yoram Schweitzer Submitted by Ken Besig (Israel), Aug 4, 2008 at 14:04 Unfortunately, and to the great sorrow of Israel, some of the most shallow, politically correct, uninformed, and misguided Israelis like Yoram Schweitzer hold important and influential positions in the Israeli government, academia, and media. These people, like Yoram Schweitzer, Dennis Ross, and far too many others consistently and continually support or advise dangerous and often lethal political, diplomatic, or security choices like the Rabin Oslo Accords, the Ehud Barak withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000, the Ariel Sharon disengagement from Gaza and the Shomron, or the lopsided prisoner exchanges we Israels have tragically become accustomed to. Worse, even when these choices result in the horrendous Palestinian terrorist murder of thousands of innocent Israelis, these people never think to change their course or question their appeasement ideology, and will in fact continue to bitterly criticize those who opposed them and demand that even riskier and more dangerous political or diplomatic choices be taken by Israeli governments. Of course, the real responsibility for this debacle lies with the Israeli public, a public which every few years is given a serious choice as to who should run the nation, but which is so fragmented by sector that often the worst possible candidate comes out on top of an even worse coalition. This is not to excuse the Yoram Schweitzers or the Dennis Rosses for their routinely bad and even dangerous influences and advice. These people were warned time and again, in the clearest possible language, and with the greatest possible emphasis, that the Oslo Accords, the Lebanon withdrawal, the Disengagement, and yes, the lopsided prisoner exchanges, were creating a clear and immediate Palestinian terrorist danger to the State and People of Israel. They chose to ignore those voices, and thus in part, at least, the blood of the thousands of innocent Jewish men, women, and children murdered by the Palestinian terrorists is on their hands as well.
