Diplomacy failed, US is Out and Israel's on it's OwnReader comment on item: If Not [Arab-Israeli] Peace Now, What? Submitted by Jonathan Selby (United States), Aug 13, 2008 at 17:05 Diplomacy has failed and Israel's on it's own- so why should Israel wait any longer to face the inevitable war which would only let Iran, Syria and Hezbollah get even stronger in the process? The US has made it clear that their oil concerns are more important than helping Israel (which policy will fail anyway as Russia reasserts itself as a world power). By America rejecting Israel's recent request for certain military equipment the US made it clear that it's effectively out of the equation, indefinite diplomacy is also dangerous as is chancing Obama getting in office- (who is very pro US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates- who evidently does not even consider Israel an ally). Recent attacks such as on an Iranian convoy (supposedly delivering a load of military equipment to the Hezbollah) is just the kind of trigger event required to set off an even bigger event, not "a Shot heard around the world" but the "explosion".
