does the soul exist?Reader comment on item: Symposium: Turkey: The Road to Sharia? Submitted by erol (Belgium), Jan 17, 2009 at 02:29 hi i am erol and i am a muslem greek or turk from alexandroupoli (dedeagac). personally i went a lot to turkey because we have a house there. i am born in belgium . turkey is a good country and the turks are good people but i personally think turkey must not join the eu because the turks from turkey, and i mean it dont look european. but when i go to my town in greece and when i look to the muslem greeks i really see the significant looks of the european human. i think that body and mind go the same. i know that they say that the turkish people and for instance finnish people have things in common, i know all of this stuff some are even way too complex to explain it. it is not a coincidence that finland has won the eurovision songfestival with the crazy music they play. if you know a lot you can see a pattern of events... for insance when i went to the border from greece to turkey in the summer of 2008 when it was 37° celcius all the turks that came from abroad anywhere didnt wear shorts(swimming short or bermuda) but they all wared pants in such a warm day and the women wore headscarfs long jackets and stuff. i really cannot understand this attitude. and i have heared that in the turkish city of corum when you ware a bermuda short people would look very angry at you and they try to make you ware pants. in the turkish city bursa its the same story again, in the city itself almost nobody wares shorts or bermudas in that warmth. but in my town in greece were the turkish or muslems live they all ware mini skirts and the real greek girls are wearing almost nothing, you know, people talk openly over relations, and the muslems of greece think of turkey as a "not so wealthy country" and even have remarks that turkey is a bit of socialist communist country. they also think that the turks of turkey are a not so polite people, i have experienced it myself when in the city itself of bursa, a big city with one million inhabbitants, when i asked to two men if this store was his, the guy answered; sorunmu var ulan? witch means not litteraly 'you look for problems?" and so i did not answer back and went away. indeed they can be really rude sometimes, big macho freaks. and in my town in greece people think of the people of turkey like they have a culture in a way of that of the zulus, not to offend any people but a very forreign culture. i also think that the turkish citizens have not a attitude of like an european witch is consumption orientated, they do not now of the latest shoes of nike or the latest rap of pop music and stuff. i think the country and its citizens arent globalized, as i said i think body and mind goes synchronised. they are also not openminded and not easily admit things, if i was a turkish citizen i would said; ooh i am so jealous of them europeans i feel bad that my country is not a finesse country. we all know the situation well so this is reality. they regard their culture as world-class but it is far from that. in the ottoman period maybe, witch is arguable, but nowadays its "sure" a second-class situation over there. they should open their mind and give the soul away to globalisation and forget their culture from the remains of the seljuk and ottoman period to an consumption (united states) orientated culture, the more expensive the better, not the cheaper the better like in russia. this sir, is for real. no doubt. but then, even, they arent european looking people, i cannot see the significant design of the european human face in the turks of turkey. they may be white but the russians are also white and do not have the significant design of the face of an european human. if you say a significant design of a human face doe not exist, yes it does, the statue of liberty, is the most eye. so please stop the foolishness of turkey and european union, full membership is not a option. turkey is a world appart of europe. it is an alternative world and culture. it is not because turkey is muslem, the people and the culture is not european. i have a lot turkish friends in belgium and i go sometimes to the lounge of the mosque here, and once there was this italian christian guy who felt as christian he had to go a dialogue with the muslems, so he did it in the lounge area of the musque. every turk talked moderate but i talked very hard to him and i said; a dialogue does not exist, it is always who wants to be the boss. then i said either you become a muslem or you stop this dialogue. then after a while even thet i talked a hard and extreme way the guy only wanted to talk to me and he did not know that i was a greek muslem or a turk from greece, after a while the christian italian wanted to talk only to me because he felt this brotherhood of blood with me even he was a christian and i a muslem. so the piont is, it is not that we want turkey that it is a muslem country, we dont want them because they are not europeans. they havent got this invisible touch of brotherhood under the europeans even we have different beliefs. that is the base reason why turkey must not join the E.U. wish you all the best.
