Burka-clad woman asked to get off of busReader comment on item: Institutions Push Back Against Head Coverings Submitted by nevermindmyname (Denmark), Apr 2, 2009 at 22:06 In Denmark we just had a case of a burka clad woman, whom the bus driver asked to get off because he couldn't identify her to her ticket. (a monthly electronic card with the owners picture on). The driver refused to let her on for 20 minutes, until someone called the bus company, and they forced the driver to take her on anyway. The driver denied the woman with the explanation that Danmark has a prohibition against masking - although this is typically used, and was initiated, in terms of riots and demonstrations. A muslim organization - though not a very famous one - has stated that the driver was right in denying the woman on said explanation, and that she could simply buy a ticket instead of the electronic bus-card. Polls among the danes in the media range from slightly disapproving of his/her conduct to wholeheartedly supporting him - to the extend of defaming muslim women.
