it is a security matter , caused by some muslims who are violent.Reader comment on item: Institutions Push Back Against Head Coverings Submitted by Phil Greend (Canada), Apr 12, 2009 at 16:52 The reason that the burqua and niqabs may be banned is due to the fact that some muslims have used them in violent crimes, ie. suicide bombings and armed robberies. Also in some islamic families, the women are forced to wear certain types of clothing or face death. This death is done at the hands of the woman or girls family. Here in Canada a young girl named Aqsa Purvez was brutally murdered in a savage manner. Her family is facing the courts. What makes all of this worse...is the fact that when a woman or girl has decided to not wear the niqab...the family feels they have lost their honor in the islamic community. Some members of the islamic community then shun the family, ie. marriages are called off. business deals are canceled and so forth. Then if the family murders the girl...the family is then thought to have regained their honor...The truly sick part is that after the girl has been murdered by her family...the islamic community then retakes the family back into the fold. So it is not just one family member who is to blame but maybe the entire islamic community or a sizeable portion there of. The good news is that this can change. Well it can change if the good muslims decide to take a stand against honor killings. If good muslims speak out on the subject of honor killings and they stop and suicide bombings are halted...then maybe there will no longer be a need to ban the burka and the naqabs. Once again ... it is the decision of the Muslims themselves that will determine what happens to them.
