Islam is a religious-cultural and not a geographical entityReader comment on item: Jerusalem Falls to British, "Great Rejoicing in the Christian World" Submitted by o.wilhelmsson (Belgium), Apr 27, 2009 at 04:27 the otoman empire stretched in its best moments half over the today arab/ north african and european dominions. Today , Turkey (istanbul) is a gateway between europe and asia, but still strong culturally and religious muslim. Turkey was before its secular modern days before ataturk, even an extreme muslim power actively converting (a la spanish inquisition) conquered people and wiping out unbelievers. In that sense it is right to state, independent which muslim power was in place, that jerusalem was 678 years under muslim rule before the british took it over.
