The "Truth"Reader comment on item: Assessing Obama's Cairo Speech Submitted by Asher (Israel), Jun 7, 2009 at 17:40 Obama (and or his advisors) is either very smart - or exceptionally stupid. Obama repeats the word truth numerous times he is even a "student of history". Others have already pointed out the inaccuracies of his historical information. I would hope that the White House staff would be able to figure out who recognized the US first. This means that Obama was not telling the complete truth. What was he was doing then? He was either making very silly mistakes ore he was adopting the excepted and expected practice in the Muslim/ Arab world. You give honour. You flatter your host to the point of nausea. Your wives are so pretty, your camels so fair – and your food beyond comparison. I think this is what Obama was doing. By adopting this practice he confused a few bloggers and news analysts but he conveyed a very potent message. I speak your language, I understand your culture. Yes in this culture – this is what is called "Truth". And now for a few real truths. The Jewish People have been connected to the Land of Israel since what Archeologists call the Iron I period. That is about 1250 BC (that is - without the stories of the patriarchs in the Middle Bronze age 1800 BC) Islam began in the 7th Century AD In the San Remo conference the international community acknowledged that the Jews deserved a homeland in Palestine- well before the Holocaust. The Arabs in Palestine were never an independent entity- to the contrary for much of their history they objected to this title. The Arabs in Palestine have been offered peace agreement on a number of occasions – to each plan they have responded in violence. The Moslem world cannot agree to a final solution of the Jewish State in Israel – for them it is a religious issue- the land is Holy to Islam – no ruler would have the right to make such concession – same with the refugee issue – that is why Arafat probably chickened out at Camp David when Barak offered him almost everything he asked for. They cannot agree to any treaty that will include – the clause – end of conflict. This is religion – to a true Moslem there is no room for compromise. I could go on – but I will end with the clincher Abu Mazan – Mahmud Abbas was born in Safed. Safed is a town in Northern Israel that today is the home of a 100% Jewish population. Do you think that Abbas will concede his birthplace in any agreement – or does he still dream of Safed returning to the Arabs of Palestine? Obama - you may have very quickly jumped from being a student of History to being a victim of the "truth", Moslem (and Arab) style.
