Tragedy in Egypt

Hi Dr. Pipes

I just watched 2 episodes on el-Mihwar TV channel from Egypt about sexual assaults on young boys by male teachers and one case is in Cairo and the other one is in Qina, which is in Upper Egypt, and these schools are el-Azhar Quranic schools

What is most amazing is the fact that Oprah Winfrey's show about sexual abuse by the clergy is the insipration for many parents to come forward with the charges against those teachers. There is no doubt that such subject is a taboo in the best of times. And what is even more tragic is that the victim becomes more victimized by the simple fact that he was raped which is seen many islamists that he brought it on himself

And i suspect that those accused will get away with it because the victims are not important (and this is where the tragedy is) in the eyes of those at al-Azhar who want the whole thing to just go away
