I have always seen the same scenario as you describe playing out in Iraq. The Iranian Despotic Shiite government even offered troops to fight against Saddam Hussein. Once the USA and Allies have withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan...the centuries old contest between Sunni's and Shia's will burst forth again....no matter how long our time in these Nations.

In the meanwhile, we are "bleeding to death" economically in borrowing money to pay for these wars.

I do have deep sympathy for the middle eastern peoples caught in this wide religious net...but there may be little more that we can do to help. Everyone joins with those who they think will win dominance in the area....changing sides on a dime.

President Obama is right to get out of the region..as early as posssible. It will be a sad and bloody time if the middle easterm folks allow the Taliban to get back in control though. Either they stand up for their own rights in this world...or no one else can really help.
