Only stable Islamic governments are monarchiesReader comment on item: Iraq's Cosmetic Election Submitted by PPS (United States), Apr 1, 2010 at 02:53 Dear Dr Pipes: Most of the Islamic world is in political turmoil. The only exceptions to this rule are some moderately stable dictatorships of North Africa and a few oil-rich emirates in the middle-east. So when United States leaves Iraq, the best possible outcome will be that some shaikh becomes the monarch of Iraq (like the current emirates of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and UAE). Iraq is oil rich. So this new monarchy will be rich and stable in the same convoluted way in which the other emirates in the middle east are. If a monarchy is established in Iraq, hopefully there will be no large scale mayhem. Any effort to establish democracy in Iraq is bound to fail. If the oil rich Islamic countries could remain stable for the next 20 to 30 years in some or the orther forms of monarchies, we can hope that after a generation or so they will be ready for democracy and progress. US should try its best to find a Shaikh for Iraq. This Shaikh will send his kids to western universities to study, participate in horse and car races, provide free oil to the citizens and immigrant workers, invest in Western businesses, provide lip service to Islam, and hopefully allow free Internet access to all citizens.
