Europe does not know where it is going nor does it know what is happening in its own belly!Reader comment on item: In Europe, Remorse Has Turned to Masochism Submitted by Isaac Haskiya (Denmark), Apr 28, 2010 at 07:15 Bruckner is right especially when he writes about Europe blaming Israel for the disturbances in its cities. This old continent, the cradle of Western culture, has grown old and lost its political eye-sight, its vision blurred by secularism that has caused the loss of certain norms, liberalism that can no longer tell what is right or what is wrong, the fixation on social securities that has turned its citizens into silent and comfortable cowards, the loss of respect between men and women, children and parents, students and teachers, by a grotesque interpretation of democratic rights that have lost their logical and ethical borders. The easy way out is blaming somebody else instead of looking for what is wrong inside one-self. Europe has yet to cope with its Muslims whose integration is not happening and has tied its own hands in solving the problem. A Frenchman like Bruckner should say "L´Europe a perdu le nord" meaning that Europe has lost its direction. Saying that it is blinded or handicapped by its past would be too much. I would rather say that it is blinded by its own present! As far as the entente between Europe and the US I would say that chances are scarce since the common criterias no longer exist.
