"Know thine enemy"Reader comment on item: Pipes: Flotilla Raid a War for World's Future Submitted by Nick4693 (Japan), Jun 3, 2010 at 21:33 Spot on, by Dr. Pipes! I believe in Israel's right to conduct searches for arms on incoming ships, planes and trucks to Gaza, considering Hamas's continuous rocket attacks on its southern border, however, I believe they could be carried out less ostentatiously and with less aggression. What happened with regard to the aid flotilla played right into Turkey's hands! Turkey has become more and more radicalized through Islam, and this was their way of showing it, knowing full well what the Israeli response would be. So far, I have had much respect for Israel's general responses to acts of terror against it, but this time they got it wrong. I was reminded of Raymond Ibrahim's opening words when testifying before Congress a year ago. He stated, among other things, that: "Before attempting to formulate a long-term strategy to counter radical Islam, Americans (that is, all and sundry) must first and foremost understand Islam, particularly its laws and doctrines, the same way Muslims understand it -- without giving it undue Western (liberal) interpretations." The problem is that the West tends to see everything through its own prism, instead of focusing on the way Muslims understand Islam. He admonishes the West to truly understand the nature of the enemy and his ultimate goals, rather than equate it with our own idea of religion. In other words, Islam IS the problem, yet few really understand it or even make the effort to understand it. Several years ago, I wrote about this same subject to President G.W. Bush, though I'm sure it never got beyond his array of secretaries. I said that the Koran should be "must" reading for all politicians, otherwise we run the risk of Islam being seen as just another "innocuous" religion, on a par of those in the West. We allow Muslims to build mosques right in our midst, seeing them as "churches," while in truth they are hotbeds of intrigue working towards our destruction. They are allowed to build madrassas where little minds are inculcated with hatred for the very people among whom they live. We provide terrorists in custody with copies of the Koran for comfort, not realizing that they are manuals for our own demise. The only way to combat the evil threat of Islam, which is only too real, is to thoroughly understand it as Muslims understand it. "Know thine enemy." And we'd better be very quick about it!!!!!!!!!!!!
