The Reformation?Reader comment on item: The United States Government, Still the Patron of Islam Submitted by Joe (United States), Aug 20, 2010 at 19:39 So you're telling me that all of Martin Luther's cartoons, all the angry anti-Catholic, anti-Protestant cartoons such as this one http://personal.rhul.ac.uk/uhle/001/macbr90.jpg were so unoffensive to Catholics and Lutherans that they decided to burn them, riot over them, destroy presses, etc. Popes issued orders to have pamphlets that portrayed Catholicism negatively to be burned. But I guess that's a sign that they weren't offended by them. (sarcasm) It was cartoons like these being spread around that first riled up Catholics in the Reformation in the first place. Christians were VERY upset by these things. Consider even the churches that burned copies of Harry Potter not too many years ago. Offended by a children's book so much they had to burn it? Seems like these Christians' values were not too different to me. It seems your statement "Islam is the only religion in human history that takes offense at cartoons." is founded on a complete ignorance of Christian and European history. Seriously do some research. Don't even get me started on all the Christian riots in the ancient world... Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
