"Three centuries have just passed away. Byzantium reigns over Jerusalem. A Christian Patriarch governs the Holy Sepulchre. But the heroic era of the Apostles is passed. The Low Empire, lost in his theological disputes and already corroded, zooms on the one hand in front of the barbarians and the other in front of the Islam. Chi non vede la grandezza di questo compito?
Rendendo questo omaggio all'Islam, io tengo a distinguere essenzialmente:
altra volta ed oggi, i califfi dell'epoca eroica e i sultani di Costantinopoli, la razza araba e la razza turca.

Omar appartiene alla più grande epoca dell'islamismo e non si può che ammirare il sentimento di riverenza che lo fece curvare innanzi alla sacra pietra. Così gli sarà consentito di rialzare il tempio sotto una nuova forma, che promette già:
il tempio delle nazioni .
Non fu già Omar, ma uno dei suoi successori, il califfo Abd-el Melik-ibn-Meruân, che edificò la moschea.
I mussulmani la chiamarono moschea di Omar, e fu giustizia.
L'opera dell'architetto è bella, ma l'atto dell'eroe è più bello ancora."

Therefore, everything is meditated during centuries, in my opinion this is the first testimony "prophetic" of everything that's happening, the plan was prepared by centuries.
