Beside the tradition of religious intolerance you so accurately describe, there is a parallel tradition in rural America of religion as entertainment: tent shows, revival meetings and their modern equivalent the megachurch. Hick preacher Terry Jones put himself on the map by a publicity stunt. It was a business decision one hundred percent.

Why should the taxpayers of Gainesville and the State of Florida have to subsidize a man's business activities?
