What so many do not understand about Islam

Fundamental Islam is original Islam as presented and practiced by its founder, Mohammed. That's what "fundamental" means. Over time, just like in Judaism or Christianity became distorted, the teachings of Mohammed were distorted by the misinterpretations of influential leaders so that now there are several major factions all claiming to be correctly following the teachings of Mohammed. Obviously, it can't be true. There is only one correct way to understand Mohammed just like there is only one correct way to understand what any of us say. All others are false. To recognize the true teachings of Mohammed, all one has to do is examine the history of Islam as it was practiced under Mohammed's rule. If you do, you will discover that "innocent" refers to Muslims only. Infidels are all guilty and deserving of death, that's everyone who is not Muslim.

When Muslims claim to be a religion of peace, what they mean is that if you become a Muslim, one of the right stripe, you might expect not to be targeted for death like a non Muslim, unless you cross the authority in charge of course. There can never be peace between Islam and the non-Islam world. They are certain (subjectively) that the god they serve is the true and only god and that only those who accept and serve him have a right to life. All others are the willful mortal enemies of Islam and of its god. This is the justification they use for killing non Muslims, or for persecuting them by any and all means they wish to use.
