Another Middle Eastern AsymmetryReader comment on item: Restrictions on Palestinians in Lebanon Submitted by Peter Herz (United States), Mar 4, 2011 at 19:26 Where is the world's outrage at a situation like this, in which people are kept stateless for generations among those who share common linguistic, cultural, and religious traditions? This is all the more inexcusable when one considers how many descendants of the Maghreb, Yemen, Egypt, and Iraq are now no-questions-asked Israelis; or how Greece a absorbed so many Eastern Orthodox Christians who spoke only Turkish and how Turkey absorbed so many Muslims from Thessaly, Epiros, and the Aegean islands who spoke only Greek; or, how the millions of refugees in the Indian subcontinent were quietly absorbed by India and Pakistan respectively following the partition of 1947--and all without a penny of UN aid or Arab oil money.
