What is this rant?Reader comment on item: Push Back on the University Front Submitted by Gary Josephson (United States), Jul 10, 2011 at 01:05 I am a fairly regular reader of Pipes stuff because of his analysis of the islamic danger (is that politically correct?) and his support for Israel. These comments and then the rants in the comments are expected elsewhere and to my mind only represent the intellectual inferiority of so many on the right in their critisism an analysis of the left which in particular is the "hate speech" against all things liberal and left. While is is true the "god that failed" in the Soviet experience is a fact it has become also abundantly clear that the "God that failed" also applies to the ungoverned private sector who has recently through their corruption and gambling in finance almost siglehandedly destroyed american production and the sharing of benefits that was the hallmark of American success. Everywhere else in the world economic elites thrived by the encouragement of depriving others as a way to riches, but grudgingly the idea of sharing with the producers (workers) the benefits of prosperity won over and created a consumer class and a strong middle class and these were no leftists, but people like Henry Ford (an anti-semite and no friend to unions). Now we are returning to a European style right that expects everyone with less to have even less in the newbelt tightening. In summary having defeated socialism completely the anti left and anti liberal rant in conjuction with blaming the victims and decreasin their share in the products have resurrected their long time enemy and insist it has power that it does not hold. This is just scapgoating and in my mind not fitting for the typical subject matter of the Pipes forums. Please understand that while I have a left background I am not at all happy with the left on so many items, but on another day I will write about that. I now charaterize myself as in the radical middle. This article on the other hand represents a radical right agenda and not as I would term it a "respectable conservative" conversation. In fact I would term it more accuratly as hate speech framed in "polite" language. Speak to the issues please not empty labeling. The class war declared against owners by the oppressed and the class war of owners against their slaves ended with the American Civil War. Since that time the various sides world wide have had wars and destruction, but in due time the owners will still own, but they will be regulated. We need to work out the tems of agreement to insure maximum liberty and prosperity for all. Which is the goal of the honest democratic left and is the duty and goal of all civilizations and governments.
