Blaming Rushdie is incorrectReader comment on item: Submitted by Prashant (United States), Feb 3, 2012 at 04:10 Dear Dr Pipes: The reader Dona from South Korea said that it was a shame that Rushdie has not used his noteriety as a pulpit to speak out against the notion that he should be put to death. I think Dona is asking for too much from Rushdie: a person under constant death threat cannot be expected to speak much. I am just glad that Rushdie is not already killed and that he has not become a name-sake Muslim to please his tormentors. I admire Rushdie for the latter. However it is our duty that we support Rushdie and support those who support Rushdie. In Jaipur Literary Festival while 90% of the authors made ambiguous statements or kept quiet, four authors used their time to read passages from Satanic Verses. These four authors need to be commended. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
