Dear Mr. PrashantReader comment on item: Submitted by Debanjan Banerjee (India), Mar 29, 2012 at 06:43 My problems with giving too much attention to Rushdie or for that matter the likes of Taslima Nasreen or Ayan Hirsi Ali or Nonie Darwish are based upon the following fundamental principles. 1. Rushdie has presented the issues of Islamic world in the terms that has suited the Western supremacist attitudes and this can never be considered as independent-minded. 2. Rushdie's fame is only because of the way he presents Islam in a way which suits the Western supremacist attitude towards Islam. 3. Rushdie or for that matter the ones I mentioned above have done nothing to criticize objectively the horrendous human rights of violations that have been perpetrated upon the Muslims both in the West as well as in places like Iraq , Afghanistan , Pakistan , Palestine , Somalia or elsewhere since 9/11. 4. Rushdie and of his fellow types have never ever tried to properly give an honest view of the humongous crimes of Western colonialism in the Islamic world and in the developed World in general. 5. Rushdie and of his fellow types have never posted an objective criticism of the current fundamental social , economic and political flaws of the Western systems particularly those that leads to abominations such as Abu Gharib , Guantanamo bay or the recent mass murder perpetrated by American marines at Kandahar. 6. On the question of freedom of expression , Rushdie's performance is selective to say the least ; he always criticizes anyone who does not agree with his books but he is always silent towards the main issues regarding the real violation of freedom of expression like for example the recent French laws banning Muslims the rights to create mosques , to wear Hijabs as well as the immoral actions taken against people like Mordechai Vanunu , Bradley Manning and Julian Assange. These are the fundamental reasons I want to say that Rushdie can never ever been considered as a proper Intellectual in the categories of men like Noam Chomsky , Gore VIdal , Howard Zinn and Gilad Atzmon. Period. If you want to refute me Prashant, you must prove me incorrect by giving out real intelligent reasons and not invectives and tantrums like the ones you usually shower me with. take care Debanjan Submitting....
