Process of anarchizationReader comment on item: Anarchy, the New Threat Submitted by Anne de Mandeville (France), Feb 3, 2012 at 04:16 Dear Sir, I have found your article on anarchy extremely interesting: it points to a factor that is not attracting much attention in the commentaries, whether from the media or from academics, which tend to focus on what they understand as the essentially "democratic" face of anarchy (!)... As a French academic who studied closely some revolutionary processes (English and French), not only do I agree with you but I would suggest to add Egypt to your list, a country that seems to me to be running on a very dangerous road to anarchy and chaos. I also think that what we have witnessed last summer in England is also closely related to what I would call "un processus d'anarchisation" des sociétés occidentales. Daniel Pipes replies: Egypt is certainly less under the grip of the government than in the past - the recent attacks by soccer hooligans on the Interior Ministry being just one case in point - but I think the country remains a long way from a Somali-style anarchy. That said, the coming economic travails could change circumstances rapidly. Reader comments (29) on this item
