Hadith about killing jews hiding behind a tree

Dear Dr Pipes:

I cannot believe that such a senseless piece of religious injunction can exist in any religion. All religious books have some objectionable materials but Quran's recommendations with respect to jews are at best unkind and at worst blatantly senseless. I will appreciate if someone can cite a hadith or a sura from quran that depicts jews as good people.
