Michel reports on a current case in Australia:
"A MUSLIM man is believed to be the first in Australia to have been granted a judge-only trial on the ground a jury may have been biased because of his religious beliefs.
The decision can be revealed after Ismail Belghar, 36, yesterday pleaded guilty to detaining and assaulting his sister-in-law after she "dared" to take his wife of 11 years to the beach without his permission.
The Crown appealed, arguing if Judge Solomon was correct every Muslim would be entitled to a judge-only trial."
some more information on this:
"A Muslim man was granted a judge-only trial in NSW on the grounds a jury may be biased because of his strict religious beliefs.
Ismail Belghar, 36, is believed to be the first Muslim in Australia to be granted the special trial, the Daily Telegraph reports.
The decision by Judge Ronald Solomon was revealed in the NSW District Court yesterday after Belghar pleaded guilty to detaining and assaulting his sister-in-law because she had "dared" to take his wife to the beach without asking him first.
He had initially been charged with attempted murder.
Judge Solomon had granted Belghar the trial back in March after agreeing he may not receive fair judgment with a jury.
"The attitude of (Belghar)… is based on a religious or cultural basis," Judge Solomon said.
"In light of the fact there has been adverse publicity regarding people who hold extreme Muslim faith beliefs in the community, I am of the view that the apprehension by (Belghar) that he may not receive a fair trial is a reasonable apprehension."
Then what about people who hold extreme socialist views - eg that sharing the wealth by shoplifting is OK?
Or people who bash gays because they hold really strong beliefs against them?
Do they get special consideration too?
And what if this creep's extreme muslim faith beliefs had him have a 'sudden jihad syndrome' moment against the surrounding infidels? Special treatment from a judge?
What's he doing here in the first place if he can't tolerate people not acting in accord with his extreme muslim beliefs?
I didn't think ther Crown (Department of Public Prosecutions) would let this go unchallenged. Otherwise it would be the thin edge of the wedge. Hopefully the learned judge's brother judges will see he has committed an error in law and realise the dangerous precedent he has set.

"There is a powderkeg developing in Germany, as Salafists organize and threaten with violence, after they started the whole escalation by handing out free Qurans on German public spaces, upon which demonstrations against it materialized"
Painful - but really, we couldn't hope for better self-advertising from the Religion of Peace cultists. They may as well be holding placrads saying 'look how f*&^ed up you get by following the Koran."
Germans underneath are eminently practical and pragmatic - and certainly not infinitely tolerant of fools. I will be interesting to see how this latest self-inflicted action by these emulators of the 7th century arabian miscreant pans out.
