Danger of AbbasReader comment on item: Which Way Will Abbas Go? Submitted by Reuven Rashkovsky (United States), Jan 11, 2005 at 13:44 I totally agree with your assessment of of Abbas's position , strategy, and tactics vis-a-vis Israel. Moreover, I'm convinced that his "play" is orchestrated, directed, and will be subsidized by political and religious forces in Arab (and Muslim) world. Their aim is to keep multifaceted pressure on Israel (military, terrorism, political, economical, etc..) to weaken the Israeli resolve to stand-up against their pressure. The Arab world is not capable of making make a real peace treaty with Jews as this is prohibited by the Q'uran, so the ways of Hudna - a temporary cease-fire - that is so much cherished by the Western countries, really means for Israel a delay tactic in the Islamic assault on the tiny Jewish state. No matter what Abbas will promise or will do in the next while - Israel will have no choice but to continue to keep her army strong and capable of dealing with all kinds of pressures (from regular arabic armies, from Hizbollah, and from Hamas and other terrorist organizations). Unfortunately, the world will turn a blind eye on the real intention of the Muslim world regarding Israel and will continue to blame Israel for keeping its army ready.
