But even more telling is that the incidents described in the AP story [which I think was picked up by newspapers] involve counter-espionage by Israel, within Israel, against US spying on Israel. The episode of a US embassy official fining the food in his fridge rearranged, one of the examples described in the AP article, was likely a signal by the Israelis that they knew what he was up to, and maybe a hint that he should stop. It begs the question, "Why is the US spying on its ally?"
