Drain the SwampReader comment on item: Iraq: What's Next? Submitted by Glenn Klotz (United States), Aug 19, 2002 at 06:43 I think Bush now understands that to "drain the swamp" of Arab/ Islamic terrorism regime change is really his (our) only option. The methods will differ but in the end this whole region needs to modernize, democratize and privatize etc. Neo-fascist, neo-stalinist and Islamic theocracies need to be replaced with elected governments of one variety or another and disarmed. Western Europe in the 40's, Latin America in the 50'-80's and Russia and Eastern Europe in the 80-90's are all example's of such change. Although none of these examples has been a perfect or painless change, in all 3 cases has brought increased economic growth and vastly improved "human rights."Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
