Turkey's Islamist Turn, 10 Years LaterReader comment on item: Turkey's Islamist Turn, 10 Years Later Submitted by Judith (United States), Nov 13, 2012 at 16:34 Dealing with what seems inevitable in the latest Erdogan design of a future Turkish government may in deed cause one to want to take yet "another shower." Time is revealing that Western values have no friendship in the Middle East with any current or would-be leadership, except, as always, in Israel. The foolish will continue to believe we have allies we do not, and continue to send our hard-earned money to them hoping they will remain on our side. Does Erdogan have friends or only enemies? Who shall he compromise with to set up the dream of a new Ottoman Empire? The choices are getting slimmer. Democracy and Islamic Imperalism are antithetical. The "Justice and Develpment Party" allied with the EU and Turkey caving to Islamist governance bodes not well for democracy. The EU is crashing, the U.N. is useless, and internal turmoil leaves Turkey in the abyss for now. Perhaps that's not a bad thing.
