"Horror and Barbarity"Reader comment on item: 50 Years of Syrian Misery Submitted by sdjames (Jamaica), Mar 9, 2013 at 01:33 The 'horror and barbarity' that is inflicted upon the people of Syria is no different than the horror and barbarity inflicted upon the people of Sudan, of Mali, of Ivory Coast. of Yemen of Tunisia of Libya, of... so many countries today, yet the western nations feel it necessary to come to the aid only of those who have oil resources, Why is the violence and cruelty happening in all of these (and more) countries? Because of the Islamist extremists in their midst. It is acceptable to perpetrate such atrocities in this kind of culture, and that is the first and major problem to recognize. When a culture approves of killing women and children for political or religious reasons, for honor or what else, that is not something that western civilisations can work with.
