Around 700 - 600 years BC Israel and Assyria almost continuously were at war, Assyria being Israel's most prominent, fierce and relentless enemy.
Originally Assur was a city by the river Tigris, also the abode of a powerful demon. A demon hell-bent on destroying Israel.
