Netanyahu may not be as befuddled as people thinkReader comment on item: The Right Moment for Israel's Danny Danon? Submitted by Alan Kaplan (United States), Aug 6, 2013 at 00:39 Daniel, Here is a note on these Prisoner Exchanges I sent to a few Netanyahu critics in recent days. "I disagree with you. First of all they are not playing chess or checkers where an unequal exchange of pieces governs the outcome. When the Israelis capture prisoners they have the opportunity to gather intelligence from them. They also have the opportunity to recruit them. When they release them en masse, they provide a chaff cover for those they recruit. It's a lot more difficult to screen through 1000 released prisoners than it is to screen through 4 or 5. Conversely, if the Israelis accept 3 dead bodies in exchange, they have no counterintelligence obligations. Even if they are unable to recruit a single released prisoner, they have created a potential pocket of distrust within Palestinian ranks. That might not show overtly, but everybody in the Muslim Middle East has continuing counterintelligence concerns. They know the Israelis get the information - information that could only be gotten by live bodies. But they don't know how, or who is betraying their cause. Israel has a magnificent intelligence operation. I believe it's "ploys" like these operations that are an integral part of that operation. We don't give the "Greeks" bearing the gifts nearly enough credit. And I'll take it one step further by saying that these polls adverse to Netanyahu's position may well be a part of the Israeli intelligence operation." If I were Netanyahu, I would emulate the Japanese in the days prior to Pearl Harbor. I would hold peace talks with the Palestinians while I marshaled my forces to attack Iran. It's called "playing ball". I would play ball with them and then I would shove the bat up their ass! Of course I'm not Netanyahu. Alan M. Kaplan, ACE
