Unbelievably selfish argumentsReader comment on item: Islamism in Disarray Submitted by Prashant (United States), Oct 11, 2013 at 01:42 Dear Dr Pipes, Usually it is not my style to go into 1-on-1 duels with other readers of your forum. However, Debanjan Banerjee's arguments supporting immigration of Muslims to the west are so unbelievably selfish that I think they need to be responded to. I think that Banerjee is either very naive, or very selfish or is just taking people for a ride for no serious human being will put forth arguments like his. I will summarize his arguments and retort. Islamic world's problem is due to US exploitation: Banerjee says that Islamic world's problems are due to US exploitation. Why would US choose to exploit the Islamic world and not Korean, Chinese, Indian or Latin American worlds. Banerjee will probably tell me that US is exploiting all these other worlds as well. In that case why is it that only teh Islamic world is responding in a violent way? The truth is that there are fundamental problems in the ways Islamic world tackles religion, culture, law, and politics. These fundamental causes are mainly responsible for the pathetic state of affairs in the Islamic world. The West offers more economic opportunities to the Muslim world and Muslims world contributes to the west: Extremely selfish, Mr Banerjee, in all possible ways! By your argument, immigration will be perpetually escalating obligation. I allow ten immigrants, who do some contribution, and, therefore, I must allow eleven more. Further, west offers more economic opportunities because it gives freedom to its people. If the same freedom is allowed in Islamic countries, same kind of opportunities will arise there too. Western societies have problems; and Muslim immigrants will fix those problems: No thanks. Mr Banerjee. How about reversing the same argument? Can we preach Christianity and Hinduism in Afghanistan? Can we have some healthy, educated, handsome and independent women there? It will be perfectly fine is they do not cover themselves 100% as long as they are healthy, educated, independent and handsome. Catholic Church has asked the governments in Europe and US to accommodate those who are being persecuted in Islamic countries: Catholic Church is very generous and you want to exploit the generosity to the maximum. Right Mr. Banerjee? How about holding some candle light vigils and prayer sessions form Rabat to Tripoli to Karachi, to Jakarta so no one exploits anyone and everyone lives in peace? The East absorbed a great number of Westerners as colonists and it is time for the West to return the favor: Really? Did Islamic aggressors colonize anything ever? When will it be the time to return that favor? Also, by this logic the whole world will immigrate to the west. Quite a few of the hotspots in the Muslim world are in shambles and it is the fault of the west: This point is same as the first point. In summary, Mr. Banerjee, you need to get rid of your hypocrisy, selfishness and self-righteousness. That might help some.
