Christianity European History & Hegelian Marxist DialecticsReader comment on item: Islamism in Disarray Submitted by Robert (United States), Dec 25, 2021 at 20:14 Dear Daniel Pipes, As always, you are great on the Muslim historical and current events details. However, there is always the problem of "seeing the forest for the trees.' As distasteful as it maybe to you, I recommend that you use European History as a framework for what is happening in the Muslim, Arab and Palestinian world. And particularly how things repeat themselves both Linearly and Cyclically, and the fusion of the Line and Circle is the Helix, which I take as a Metaphor of Hegel and Marx when viewing history. The histories of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, ..., the European Union are places in which the countries emerged as (what you call) Liberal Democracies. The English had Cromwell (having executed the King). But subsequently returned to a Monarchy (William & Mary), but much weak. And the French had So the real way to explain what's happening in each of the Muslim majority states is to go into the history of individual. But that requires books, or an encyclopedia, not a short article like you have here. Regarding the separation of Church and State in Europe we have to begin which split Roman Empires - the Byzantine and (Western) Rome and Christianity in each. In1453 we have the demise of that Empire and absorption into the Ottoman Empire with Christianity recognized as one of the 4 monotheistic religions - the 4th being, more or less, Nietzsche's Zoroastrianism. The problem with Islam, and consequentially Islamism, is that the Profit Muhammad was both a Religious and Political leader; Christ was only a Religious Leader; in the case of Moses, we have his leadership during the Exodus from Egypt, but Moses never enters and rules in Israel, rather his bother Aaron become the High Priest, over 12 Tribes; and Israel only begins to have a Kingdom with Saul. And as everyone knows all the is part of the Old Testament of Christian Scriptures. Our Western so-called Liberal Democracy, on the other hand, must be viewed in the context American Exceptionalism which also produced several novelties, such as a Written Constitution, the Office of the President (an initially Presiding Legislative office), Separation of Church and State, a constitutional Separation of Powers into Executive, Legislative, and Judicial of Powers; and we have our Civil War which ended Slavery (a continuous Muslim practice), and the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960's which terminated Institutionalized Racism, and eventually the Election of Barack Hussein Obama whose father was an African Kenyan (Muslim some say). So that represents the end of Racism with the demonstration that (neither) Blackness (nor Religion) are an actual impediment to being elected President - the Head of State - of the USA. This is neither a Summary not an Outline as to how one should analyze the "DISARRAY" of "ISLAMISM." It's merely a Selection of Points which one must search for in each of the Countries where Islamism plays a historical role in political Governance. Perhaps countries, to begin this kind of Analysis are Turkey, Egypt, and Iran - because they were Historically, Geographically and Politically dominant.
