Muslim RussiaReader comment on item: Muslim Russia? Submitted by Keith A Barger (United States), Oct 21, 2013 at 14:08 According to the Jamestown Foundation's Eurasia Daily Monitor, the North Caucuses are rapidly de-Russifying. Also, the russian army won't draft any Muslims from there (Chechnya, Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria & Ingushetia), even though their citizens are citizens of the Russian Federation. Thanks to the brutish acts of the Siloviki, many heretofore moderate muslims are increasingly turning Salafist & Wahabbist. And the Circassians are increasingly becoming embittered over Russia's refusal to acknowledge the Circassian ethnic cleansing by the Czars army & cossacks back in the 19th century. Sochi, the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics is a sore point with the Circassians, as that was originally part of their homeland, before they were mostly deported to the Ottoman empire. There are ethnic Circassians living in Syria & want to get out, but Ras-Putin refuses to let them emigrate back to their original homeland. Russia has a Muslim problem & Ras-Putins' policies make it worse.
