Muslim RussiaReader comment on item: Muslim Russia? Submitted by Prashant (United States), Oct 24, 2013 at 01:34 Dear Dr Pipes, In your blog "Muslim Russia" you mentioned that increasing peretage of Muslim population in Russia will fundamentally change the character of that nation. This is not a Russian phenomenon alone. It is a worldwide phenomenon and countries like India, UK, France, and Israel are also facing the same issue. But it is inevitable. Under the normal circumstances this trend cannot be stopped. If we ignore the oil rich nations, Islamic countries are the poorest nations in the world. They have the most internal violence as well. So legal and illegal immigration out of Islamic nations to "greener pastures" (as our friend Debanjan Banerjee will say) is boound to occur. And higher birth rate among Islamic people, will further exacerbate the issue. Not only they are poor, their wealth will be divided more due to their higher rate of birth. So that will make them even more poor which, in turn, make emigration even more necessary. And in this equation, is violence a cause or an effect or both? The musical chair of violence that rotates from country to country (Morocco, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt, Philippines, Lebanon, Morocco) provides additional catalyst. Let us also not forget that at least when it comes to advertising their religion to non-Muslims, muslims are the only ones who do it. Add to that the social pressure against apostasy and hypocrisy at the time of inter-religious marriages and hypocrisy regarding how Muslims treat others in Islamic countries and how they want to be treated in modern democracies and their is nothing stopping Islam. If people convert to Islam, that is a matter of freedom and free will. No one can or should stop that. But, short of that, it is the responsibility of every fair person to highlight the hypocrisy in the Islamic world. For heir own good, higher birth rate in the Islamic societies must be addressed. Non-muslims should assertively defend and advertise their religions to Muslims. Tendency to islamize everything (education, languages, culture, finance and mutual funds, law and secular ethics) must be opposed. And, last but not the least, education (both inside and outside of classroom) must be spread in Islamic societies in a hurry.
