President Has Not Turned On IsraelReader comment on item: Obama Turns on Israel Submitted by Kenneth J. Hicks (United States), Nov 8, 2013 at 18:31 Just because the US has begun to forge a deal with Iran on stopping progress of tis nuclear program does not mean President Obama has turned his back on israel. A freeze is a start and the sanction ease is just that: an ease. Sanctions do not end and can be reapplied with even greater feriocity should Iran slip up even slightly. Iran got everything it wanted? Not by a long shot. Israel did not get everything it wanted -- the US leading military strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities. And the West Bank settlements ARE illegal. As long as Israel continues to build them it is giving a resounding "No!" to the two-state solution . And the notion that President Obama would support another intifadah is beyond ludicrous. However, that Israel would welcome one makes more sense. It gives them the pretense of bringing even tighter and more ruthless control on Palestinians. From destroying homes to military strikes against anything that even smells of aggression. Israel will then insist it is impossible to deal with Palestinians and double the settlements, pushing even deeper into the Arab quarter of Jerusalem. There are just as many hard headed people on the Palestinian side, but a gesture has to be made by the one that actually has all of the power: Israel. A building freeze would be a start. Just like with the beginnings of the deal with Iran, it does not give the Palestinians everything they want, but it gives the impression that Israel does want to negotiate. Finally, the comment that a terorist would get its hands on an actual nuclear device is also [wrong]. Making a nuclear weapon is expensive in materials, technologies and time. No nation is going to give away any of its treasure -- especially since it could just as easily be turned against them. Submitting....
