THE THREAT STILL REMAINS.Reader comment on item: Cyprus Joins the Middle East Submitted by MICHAEL THOMAIDES (Cyprus), Dec 2, 2013 at 02:52 This is an excellent article, with facts & projections. However we have to look at how national interests work and deplomacy and turn it in to Cyprus's favour. Turkeys Military threats can not be left unanswered. We believe that pressure must be place on European Union Nations to take prcautions. The whole of Cyprus is EU territory an nearly 40% of it is being occupied by the Turkish Army. The EUs credablity depends on it. What if Turkey threatened or invaded a larger member such as Greece or Romania or Bulgaria, would the EU stand by. WILL THE SCHOOL BULLY BE ALLOWED TO RAMPAGE AND SUPRESS LIBERTIES LONG EARNED? Similar scenarios have happened in the past just before WWII. NAZI GERMANY: Massing of Military might, boom in the economy. 'WE ARE SUPERIOR SYNDROME' AND WE CAN DO AS WE PLEASE. Cyprus has to further strenghten its military co - operation with the US and other countries with mutual concerns. Cyprus with a total Cypriot population of less than 900,000 (Greek and Turkish Cypriots) only wants peace and stablity with it neighbours and the World. Especially Turkey. Diplomacy is the way forward, however one must know his corner is safe. Are Europe, Britain, the US and even Eastern Mediteranenan countries protect a small friendly Island people in the far Eastern end of Europe.
