Islam's Appointment in SamarraReader comment on item: ISIS Rampages, the Middle East Shakes Submitted by Pied Piper (United States), Jun 13, 2014 at 19:05 US foreign policy in the Middle East has surprising affinities to the Feminist Movement in that they are both failures. Despite concentrated efforts by the feminists to erase and efface the natural differences between male and female, to this day a little girl will "nurture" a doll, take her for walks and talk to her. A little boy handed a doll will most likely tear the poor toy to shreds, kick it and stomp on it mercilessly. US foreign policy in many areas of the world but specifically and most immediately in Afghanistan and Iraq have tried to apply and impart western values, rules and ways of doing things under the suppositions of what can only be called an infantile understanding of what they were dealing with in these two trouble spots. This approach to foreign affairs has its immediate roots in the altruistic but ultimately vapid and almost laughable "world-view" that led to the formation of the Peace Corps, another abortion that finally became a joke. How little we've advanced since then – nearly half a century ago. What is happening in the Middle East today is, as Dr. Pipes suggests, something that Middle Easterners have to work out for themselves. I contend that is nearly too optimistic an outlook – some problems cannot be worked out. This is one of them. Iran has never forgiven and certainly never forgotten the Islamization of its territory over a thousand years ago by the invading barbaric desert Arabs. In my opinion, the growth of the Shia party had little to do with religious issues – it had to do with the cataclysmic and world historical battle between Arabism and Iranianism in a struggle that has never been resolved. With this in mind, and with the confrontation of Islam with modernity, Islam is surrounded by enemies. Whether she will be able to survive as a viable cultural entity or finally simply end up as another relic, is what will be decided in the next 100 years. Millions of Muslims have been dying since 9/11 as Islam has steadily approached her appointment in Samarra. Tens of millions of more Muslims will now die too. For Islam has now arrived in Samarra.
