In 1989-90, even before Iraq War One, I modernized Mary Shelley's end-of-the-world novel "The Last Man" and relocated her siege of Constantinople to a siege of Baghdad held by religious fanatics in a war between American-backed Jadeed al-Somar (New Sumer) and the unnamed regime of religious fanatics holding Baghdad.
