An old epithet al-rawafid or الروافضReader comment on item: 'We Should Stay Out' of Iraq Conflict Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jun 27, 2014 at 06:58 Dr. Pipes It is no secret that what we have in Iraq is a sectarian war between Shia and Sunni Islam. And yes the turn of the Kurds and the Turks and other minorities in Iraq will be next but for now is it a Shia Sunni war And as usual in Islam old epithets are used in this sectarian war and on top of them is the very old epithet used by Sunnis against the Shia and they call the Shia al-rawafid or الروافض and the word الروافض really means هم الذين رفضوا الدين or those that rejected the religion (read this as Sunni Islam) And for readers that read Arabic language tweets by members of ISIS/ISIL you will find the term هذا مصير الروافض or this is the fate of al-rawafid (read this as Shia) used very often and included in the tweet will be a violent video so I found this tweet which is not violent and you will see an armored vehicle that belonged to the Iraqi army and was destroyed by members of ISIS/ISIL https://twitter.com/sultan_joker201/status/465356595082194945 One more observation: Shia Muslims are regarded as kuffar by ISIS/ISIL Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
