Can somebody explain why Israel shoots herself in the foot?Reader comment on item: Daniel Pipes: "I don't know of a single Jewish Israeli who wants the warfare to go on!" Submitted by Dian (Dina) Grossman Kjaergaard (Denmark), Sep 1, 2014 at 12:20 I am convinced that Israel does want peace. But why does anyone in Israel accept punitive action in the form of house demolitions ("signals to terrorists" last week, I believe) and annexation of land (yesterday or the day before)? Actions like this seem like shooting oneself in the foot - and make it harder for people like me outside of Israel to promote and defende Israel as we would like to.

Daniel Pipes replies: If you accept that Israelis want to live in peace, then you are aware that its enemies are engaged in a non-stop campaign to eliminate the country, from terror tunnels to nuclear bombs. In frustration, the Israelis try this and that tactic to get their enemies to desist. Some work better than others. But give them slack, please. Reader comments (14) on this item
